Who is Hugh Hanley?
Hugh Hanley is an Irish businessman who works as a personal trainer and fitness expert.
He has been head of personal training at PureGym for over a year, having also worked at Virgin Active since graduating from University College Dublin with a degree in Sport and Leisure Management.
Despite largely keeping away from the public eye, Hugh did appear on ITV’s Lorraine show to talk about Michelle’s struggles with alcohol addiction, and how he supported her.
He said: ‘There were many times where I could have walked away, it would have been easier. There’s no getting away from it, life with an addict is extraordinarily hard.’
When did Michelle Heaton marry Hugh Hanley?
Michelle got together with Hugh shortly after her 2008 divorce from the pop star’s first husband Andy Scott-Lee, who was also a singer.

What has Michelle said about her addiction battle?
In a 2021 interview on Lorraine Kelly’s self-titled show, the former Liberty X singer admitted to drinking backstage before making previous appearances on the programme.
She said: ‘Just off the back of that, I wanted to apologise to you before we begin because there were times where I drank before I sat on this sofa and you trusted me and I did campaigns for you.
‘It was five years really the trauma of all my health issues, it blew up. I just didn’t know how to stop drinking.
‘Now I worry, I worry about what effects my addictions had on me physically and also on my family. I had [Hugh] by my side but I pushed him away.’
