Ryan Reynolds Jokes About Deadpool & Fast and Furious Crossover

Summary

  • Ryan Reynolds shares video suggesting a crossover between Deadpool and Fast & Furious.
  • Formula One racer Ocon Esteban pays tribute to Deadpool by wearing a helmet at a Grand Prix race, leading Reynolds to joke about a crossover.
  • Deadpool 3 is set to make its debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year, introducing new characters and crossing paths with different versions of existing Marvel characters through the multiverse.

A crossover between Deadpool and Fast & Furious? It may seem unlikely, but for Ryan Reynolds perhaps it is not, as the actor shares a video from a Formula One race that suggests such things are indeed possible. The Fast & Furious saga has done some really crazy things, from extreme action scenes that seem to defy the laws of physics (transporting a giant safe through the streets of Brazil, using a giant submarine, and even traveling into space), but, so far, it has not included any reference to superhero movies. At least not directly.

Deadpool, for its part, not only makes fun of the mythology of several films and series based on comic books, but also of many characters and stories that are part of pop culture, so a joke about Fast & Furious would not be a surprise to fans. However, the idea of a crossover between both franchises seems absolutely crazy. But Formula One has now made it happen.

On his X page, formerly known as Twitter, Reynolds shared a Formula One Grand Prix video that was held over the weekend in Las Vegas, where racer Ocon Esteban wore a helmet that pays tribute to the Merc with a Mouth. Leading Reynolds to declares it “The Deadpool and Fast franchise crossover no one asked for…”

With or without a Fast & Furious crossover, Deadpool will experience a new adventure next year, as his third outing sees him racing straight into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. More than four years after Disney’s purchase of Fox, the Merc with a Mouth will finally arrive in the Marvel Studios franchise in what will be the first R-rated movie in the franchise’s history.

Deadpool 3 will feature the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, despite the fact that after 2017’s Logan he claimed he would not play the character again. Especially since he died in the film, which was directed by James Mangold. But now that the multiverse plays a central role within the MCU, it is now possible for him to show up, with other characters from the mutant universe also reportedly set to make an appearance alongside ones from other Fox films, such as Jennifer Garner’s Elektra.

For now, no official details have been revealed about Deadpool 3, aside from that it will be directed by Shawn Levy. Rumors regarding the plot have claimed that Wade Wilson will travel through different realities, crossing paths with different versions of characters from all Marvel franchises, meaning the film will be full of surprises.

Deadpool 3 will also feature the returns of Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter. Joining them will be new MCU stars Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen, whose roles haven’t been revealed yet, although Corrin is playing a villain.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to be released on July 26, 2024, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
