With the UFC`s heavyweight division currently facing uncertainty, the possibility of Francis Ngannou`s return has emerged.
The former champion left the promotion in January 2023, but his coach recently hinted at a potential comeback.
This quickly grabbed the attention of Jon Jones, who expressed significant interest in a fight with Ngannou, describing it as a `true super-fight`.
Jones` stance drew criticism from some fans, who suggested he was promoting this idea to avoid facing Tom Aspinall.
After his initial remarks introduced a new dimension to the ongoing heavyweight situation, Ngannou`s coach sought to clarify precisely what he meant.
Eric Nicksick Elaborates on Comments About Francis Ngannou`s Potential UFC Comeback After Jon Jones` Response
Speaking with Home of Fight, Eric Nicksick shared his view that sufficient time has passed since Francis Ngannou`s less-than-amicable departure from the UFC for the two sides to potentially reconcile.
The head coach at Xtreme Couture suggested that Ngannou would be receptive to this idea, believing Francis has always prioritized business over personal feelings.
Nicksick also emphasized that Tom Aspinall, with whom he maintains a good relationship, is fully deserving of a UFC championship opportunity, noting that bringing Ngannou back doesn`t solve the current standstill.
He added, “I`m not saying that Francis is the answer but it at least adds some more value to your heavyweight division if you go out and get a guy like him and bring him back.”
In a subsequent social media post, Nicksick reiterated his comments to ensure they weren`t misinterpreted.
He mentioned the three key figures in the heavyweight division, clarifying that he intended no disrespect towards Jones or Aspinall.
Nicksick simply believes that reintegrating Ngannou would make the division even more compelling, a point that is difficult to dispute.
Eric Nicksick Sees Parallels Between Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Situation and Undelivered Francis Ngannou Fight
While affirming his respect for Jon Jones, Eric Nicksick drew a comparison between the lengthy sagas involving the heavyweight champion and both Tom Aspinall and Francis Ngannou.
The planned Jones vs. Ngannou bout remains one of the significant UFC fights that never materialized for fans, despite both fighters being under contract simultaneously.
Nicksick remarked on the clear similarities in how the Jones and Aspinall situation is unfolding compared to the previous negotiations between Jones and Ngannou, which he feels validates the comments made at the time about the potential super fight.
He concluded, “We were ready to fight anyone that came to the table, but the negotiations weren`t stalled on our end. So, I think that now over time, the truth comes to light and we don`t really have to say much about it. You`re seeing what`s going on now.”
