Kevin Lee is reportedly considering his future in fighting following a severe knockout defeat this past Friday and the resulting injuries.
Lee made his debut in the PFL promotion, facing the highly-rated Gadzhi Rabadanov in the main event of PFL 6. This bout served as a semifinal in the lightweight world tournament. Rabadanov, who was a significant betting favorite, landed powerful punches on Lee for roughly half a round before knocking out the former UFC competitor, who fell face-first.
In the aftermath of the loss, Lee commented on the fight`s outcome, expressing doubt about his capability to absorb strikes in the cage.
Via Twitter, Lee shared his thoughts: “I’m not a coward. At least I can say that I tried. I shot for the stars. My legs just aren’t what they used to be. I can’t absorb shots anymore and honestly I don’t know if it will come back.”
Lee also disclosed that the loss resulted in a jaw injury that required his jaw to be wired shut.
This period has been challenging for Lee, who was once viewed as a fighter with unlimited potential and star power. The fighter known as “Motown Phenom” has now lost four of his last six fights. These defeats include stoppage losses to Charles Oliveira and Rinat Fakhretdinov. His only recent victories were against Diego Sanchez under the Eagle FC banner and a finish on the regional circuit for Lights Out Championship.
As for Rabadanov, he has advanced to the championship final where he will face Alfie Davis. The winner of that match will receive a prize of $500,000.
