What was intended as a celebratory homecoming for boxers Keyshawn Davis and his brothers, welterweight Keon and junior welterweight Kelvin, turned into a difficult weekend culminating in an incident Saturday night at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
After Nahir Albright`s unexpected victory over Kelvin in the co-main event, Keyshawn and Keon were reportedly involved in a confrontation with Albright backstage.
The incident, captured on video, concluded a challenging few days for the Davis siblings. Earlier, Keyshawn had failed to make weight, leading to him being stripped of his WBO lightweight title and the cancellation of his main event bout against Edwin De Los Santos.
While younger brother Keon secured a knockout win earlier the same night, the eldest brother, Kelvin, lost his decision fight to Albright.
Albright later alleged that he was “jumped” by Keyshawn and Keon backstage following his win over Kelvin. He was observed with noticeable swelling above his right eye that wasn`t present immediately after the fight.
According to Albright`s account, “They started walking up to me all tough, putting his head against mine, and then grabbed me… Then I was about to swing, but my team and everybody, they grabbed Keyshawn and everything, and it was crazy.”
Albright also told reporters that Keyshawn had head-butted him. He stated that he would consult with his team regarding the possibility of pursuing legal action over the altercation.
On Sunday, Kelvin Davis released a statement on social media apologizing for the incident, although he denied that his brothers had “jumped” anyone.
The statement read in part: “On behalf of DB3 we apologize for conducting ourselves in that way tension was high and emotions got the best of us we will be back and better and more professional its ups and downs with this and we gone take what comes with it…. With that being said WE DIDDNT JUMP NOBODY.”
Kelvin concluded his statement with an apology, saying, “Sorry to all the kids that look up to us we shall set better examples!”
Albright and Keyshawn Davis share a past history. Keyshawn had previously defeated Albright by unanimous decision in 2023, but that outcome was later changed to a no-contest after Keyshawn tested positive for marijuana.
Commenting on their history and the recent events, Albright remarked, “It`s definitely unfortunate, but it added fuel to the flame. Keyshawn, you gotta run it back with me — in the ring, not outside of the ring.”
