The Winnipeg Jets have secured a familiar face for their forward group, reaching an agreement with Morgan Barron on a new contract. The club announced today the signing of Barron to a two-year deal valued at $3.7 million, successfully bypassing the need for a formal arbitration hearing.
This new contract carries an average annual value (AAV) of $1.85 million, providing the Jets with cost certainty and solidifying a depth position within their roster for the upcoming two seasons. Avoiding the arbitration process is often seen as a preferable outcome for both player and team, streamlining negotiations and providing clarity ahead of the new league year.
Barron, who recently completed his age-25 season, appeared in 74 games for the Jets during the regular 2024-2025 campaign. He registered 15 points during that time, contributing eight goals and adding seven assists. While not known primarily for his scoring prowess, his contributions reflect his role within the team`s structure. In the postseason, he skated in 13 games, recording two assists.
Originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the sixth round, 174th overall, in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the Halifax, Nova Scotia native joined the Jets organization via trade in March 2022. He was part of the package sent to Winnipeg in the transaction that saw forward Andrew Copp heading to the Rangers.
Throughout his NHL career, split between the Rangers and Jets, Barron has accumulated 60 points (30 goals and 30 assists) over 256 regular season games. His new contract positions him as a depth forward capable of playing multiple roles, providing size, energy, and defensive responsibility, fitting a specific need on the Jets` forward depth chart at a cap-friendly number. This agreement ensures he remains a component of the Jets` lineup plans through the 2026-2027 season.
