Patchy Mix has become the most prominent free agent in the world of combat sports.
The former Bellator bantamweight champion has successfully been released from his contract with PFL, following the league`s announcement on Tuesday that they would not extend his agreement. This allows him to seek opportunities with other promotions.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, PFL confirmed, “Professional Fighters League and Patchy Mix have mutually agreed to not extend his contract. We both decided this is the best course of action for PFL and him.”
They added, “Patchy is a fantastic fighter and we wish him well. PFL is excited to crown our next 135 pound champion in the PFL World Tournament.”
This announcement concludes a situation that has developed over several months. Mix had previously voiced frustration over inactivity, particularly after his planned fight against Leandro Higo in November was cancelled. Following that cancellation, Mix had requested his release from the PFL.
He has since consistently expressed his dissatisfaction with the promotion regarding his lack of fights. His last bout was in May 2024, where he defeated Magomed Magomedov in a rematch.
This victory marked his seventh straight win, improving his professional record to 20-1.
However, due to the prolonged period of inactivity that prompted his release request, Mix was unable to defend his Bellator title or build upon that winning streak.
It now appears that both parties have reached a mutual decision to separate.
Given his status as arguably the top bantamweight outside the UFC, it`s highly probable that the UFC will show immediate interest. Mix already trains in Las Vegas, working alongside the current UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili, and he has long expressed a desire to compete under the UFC banner.
With his departure from PFL, it seems Mix may finally get the chance he`s been seeking.
