Ryan Garcia to Undergo Right Hand Surgery

Following his recent upset loss to Rolando `Rolly` Romero, boxer Ryan Garcia, 26, is reportedly scheduled to undergo surgery on his right hand. This procedure is expected to delay his planned return to boxing, according to various reports.

Sports Illustrated was the first to report the injury, which Garcia apparently sustained during his training camp for the May 2 bout against Romero in Times Square. Instead of postponing the match, the fighter from California decided to proceed, managing the discomfort with cortisone injections.

During the fight itself, Garcia appeared cautious, throwing an average of just 17.5 punches per round, including a notably low 48 power punches. The combined punch volume for both fighters throughout the fight was only 123 out of 490 total punches, marking one of the lowest totals ever recorded by CompuBox.

The surgery is planned for Wednesday morning and will be performed by Dr. Stephen Shin, a well-known hand specialist who has previously operated on prominent boxers such as Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko. Garcia is expected to be out of training for a minimum of six weeks following the procedure.

Prior to the Romero fight, a rematch between Garcia and Devin Haney had been anticipated later in the year. However, the defeat by Romero may have altered those plans, particularly since Garcia`s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has indicated that Garcia is now interested in a rematch against Romero.
