‘Still fighting’ – Ben Askren’s wife issues worrying health update with ex-UFC star battling to stay alive in hospital

The wife of former MMA champion Ben Askren has provided a new update on his health as he continues his fight against pneumonia.

The 40-year-old was initially “unresponsive” following his hospitalization last week.

Askren remains in critical condition, having developed pneumonia after suffering a staph infection.

Earlier this week, false rumors unfortunately spread claiming he had passed away.

However, his wife Amy refuted these claims, confirming to TMZ Sports that Ben is “definitely still fighting” for his life.

According to former fighter and commentator Daniel Cormier, Askren has been moved to a hospital closer to his hometown in Wisconsin.

Commenting on the situation, Daniel Cormier stated:

“Everybody is just kind of praying that Ben gets better and we can start moving forward with life for Ben.

“It’s so sad. I don’t know how things like this happen to someone who is so good because Ben is a good guy.

“Pray for Amy, guys. Pray for the kids. Ben, we love you, buddy. We are constantly thinking about him every single day.”

Askren`s wife Amy, whom he married in 2010 and shares three children with, issued an emotional statement on Tuesday.

Her message conveyed:

“Feeling so incredibly thankful for our friends and community.

“It’s times like this that remind you how truly blessed you are.

“I feel God moving through the love and support we have received.

“I’m sorry if I haven’t had the chance to respond to you, but know I’ve seen your messages, and each one has meant so much to me.

“Please keep praying for Ben.”

A former Bellator welterweight world champion, Askren retired from mixed martial arts in 2019 after competing in three UFC bouts.

He later participated in a boxing match against Jake Paul in 2021, where he suffered a first-round knockout loss.
