It’s time to make the trek to New York City through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, the swirly, twirly gum drops and the Lincoln Tunnel again. Fans of the 2003 Christmas classic Elf have reason to celebrate. Yes, they will have an opportunity to see Will Ferrell play Buddy the Elf on the big screen once again in the very venue that King Kong himself scaled back in 1933. That’s right, the Empire State Building is presenting special 20th anniversary screenings of director Jon Favreau’s must-see holiday flick on Wednesday, December 13. But the price per ticket will cost visitors a whopping $135! “Son of a Nutcracker!” Check out the official description of the special event below (per esbnyc.com):

“New Date added due to popular demand! Now Elf will be showing on December 13th! In the spirit of the holidays, the Empire State Building is proud to present not one, but FOUR different viewings of the beloved movie Elf, a classic that features Buddy the Elf and his journey to New York City and the Empire State Building. Attendees of all ages who purchase tickets will also receive complimentary snacks and drinks during the event.

Once the feature flick concludes, guests will make their way up to the 86th floor Observatory as well as the 102nd Floor Observatory — both included with every ticket — to take in incredible 360-degree views of New York City. Note: Please arrive at 6:30 PM to allow for time to go through the Empire State Building exhibits prior to the film starting at 7 PM.”

This holiday, discover your inner elf.

Will Ferrell’s performance as Buddy, in conjunction with the story penned by director Jon Favreau and screenwriter David Berenbaum, led to Elf ranking No. 4 on MovieWeb’s best Christmas flicks of all time. And while seeing the classic Christmas film at the Empire State Building would be an experience of a lifetime, not everyone can afford that gaudy $135 price tag. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to celebrate the movie’s 20th anniversary without breaking the bank.

AMC, Cinemark and Marcus Theatres are all offering 20th anniversary screenings of Elf throughout December and all over the United States. To find theaters, showtimes and tickets, visit Fandango’s official website. The cost of admission will vary by location, but unless fans want to actually rent out a theater for a private screening, the ticket price will be considerably lower than the Empire State Building’s special event.

For those New Yorkers who still want to see Elf on Wednesday, December 13, if the Empire State Building event sells out, AMC Theatres are offering their own screenings in the Big Apple that same day. The AMC Empire 25 is screening the film at 5 p.m. EST for $5 a ticket! And the AMC Kips Bay 15 on second avenue will provide an IMAX screening ($8 a ticket) at 2 p.m.

Ferrell had a “weird feeling” thanks to Elf, and the film went on to make a jaw-dropping $227.4 million at the worldwide box office, during its theatrical release. Tickets for the 20th anniversary Elf screenings at the Empire State Building can be purchased at esbnyc.com. And the film is also currently streaming on both Hulu and Max.
