Granblue Fantasy is a Japanese role-playing video game created by Cygames. It’s available on Android, iOS, and web browsers and was first released in Japan in March 2014. The game brings together renowned music composer Nobuo Uematsu and art director Hideo Minaba, known for their previous collaborations on titles like Final Fantasy V, VI, IX, and Lost Odyssey.

The world of Granblue Fantasy has expanded beyond its mobile RPG roots into a fighting game series developed by Arc System Works (known for the Guilty Gear series). Now, Cygames is taking the franchise into the realm of a third-person action RPG with Granblue Fantasy Relink. The release date trailer, unveiled during Gamescom 2023, reveals that the game is set to launch on February 1, 2024. Granblue Fantasy Gameplay

The game is a role-playing video game with turn-based battles. It features summons and a class system that changes the main character’s abilities and growth. Characters level up and gain abilities through experience, and certain materials can unlock extra stars for them, known as “FLB” or full limit break. Summons and equipped weapons give bonuses to attack power and HP. Characters are obtained through quests or by using in-game currency to roll for random crystal fragments, which may include special weapons adding characters to the party. Characters, summons, and weapons are ranked as SSR, SR, R, or N, each belonging to a specific element. Using a superior element in battles, like water against fire opponents, offers advantages, such as increased damage output. Voice actors provide voices for characters in battles, as well as in the main and event storylines, including tie-in or collaboration characters and stories.

Granblue Fantasy Plot

The story begins with the Captain (the player character, either Gran or Djeeta) and their winged companion Vyrn in the town of Zinkenstill. They rescue a girl named Lyria and an Imperial Officer named Katalina from the Erste Empire. During the fight, the Captain is mortally wounded, and Lyria merges her soul with them to save their life. Lyria summons a giant monster, Proto-Bahamut, driving the Empire away. The trio, now linked by fate, decides to head to the island of Estalucia to escape the Empire and uncover clues about the Captain’s estranged father.

Crash-landing in the Port Breeze Archipelago, they meet Rackam, a helmsman working on a broken airship. The Empire follows them, seeking to recapture Lyria. After convincing Rackam to help them, they fight off Imperial soldiers and repair Rackam’s airship, the Grandcypher.

As the Captain gathers allies and faces Primal Beasts, they become entangled in a plot involving the mysterious Black Knight, the doll-like Orchis, and the Empire’s hidden history.

Having thwarted Freesia’s ambitions and collected Skydom Map Pieces, the crew breaks through the miasma of the Grim Basin. Due to Loki’s manipulation, the Grandcypher crew is separated. They arrive at the Nalhegrande Skydom, a unified kingdom destroyed ten years ago. The main characters, along with Katalina, meet a young man named Cain on Melkmaar Island.

After preventing The True King from taking over the Nalhe Great Wall, the Grandcypher Crew chases after the Main Character, who fell from the collapsing island after rescuing Alliah.
