HBO

True Detective is an anthology series that features a separate standalone story with its own leads in every season. The first season, which premiered on HBO in 2014, was led by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey. That was followed up with a second season featuring Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams, which aired in 2015. Season 3, which aired in 2019, featured Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff. It created a lot of excitement instantly back when it was first announced that Jodie Foster would be one of the leads in the newest fourth season.

“It’s out. Dreams do come true. Nightmares too,” Lopez wrote on Twitter when the casting was first announced. “I can’t wait for you all to see what strange, cold mysteries we’re cooking.”

When the casting was officially announced, HBO’s executive VP of programming, Francesca Orsi, also said in a statement, “We are tremendously excited to return to the True Detective franchise and to be working with the multi-talented Issa Lopez, whose singular vision for her Night Country installment will be beautifully realized with Jodie Foster and Kali Reis in the starring roles.”

True Detective: Night Country comes to Max later this year.
