Kelsey Grammer is on something of a nostalgic revival trail at the moment. After his small screen return as Frasier Crane, the actor made an unexpected appearance as the voice of Hank McCoy aka Beast, in the post-credits scene of The Marvels. Now the actor has been teasing more to come from his X-Men character in the future of the franchise.

Grammer made his first appearance as Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, where he portrayed the character as a member of the U.S. Cabinet, serving as the Secretary of Mutant Affairs. In the movie, Hank had an integral role in fighting for a peaceful coexistence between mutants and humans, a theme central to the X-Men series.

In The Marvels, Grammer provides the voice for a CGI version of Beast, who is very much a live-action interpretation of his appearance in X-Men ’97, the animated series that will soon be joining the previous X-Men offerings available on Disney+. The character appears in the closing moments of the movie, when Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau finds herself trapped in an unknown universe, where she meets Beast, and another mutant called Binary, better recognized as Maria Rambeau as she was in the MCU’s timeline.

Now that the secret is out, Grammer has stopped playing coy and shared his hopes and belief that there is much more to come from Beast in the next phase of Marvel’s grand narrative. Speaking to The Wrap, Grammer said:

“It is my hope that you will [see him again]. I can say with a certain amount of confidence that you will. I would love to. I’ve always wanted to play him again. I see him as an extraordinary character, a real character of gravitas and importance in our culture. I’m delighted Beast is back and hope he’s back in a real way.”

Grammer’s portrayal of Beast extends beyond X-Men: The Last Stand. He also made a cameo appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past as a professor in Charles Xavier’s school. This brief return to the character was a nod to his previous role and a treat for fans of the franchise. Nicholas Hoult portrayed a younger version of Hank McCoy in other X-Men films, providing a different perspective on the character’s journey.

Grammer’s commitment to the role of Beast and his desire to return to the character is certainly one that he has not shied away from in the past. Last year, the actor addressed the possibility of returning to the role, with a very specific tongue-in-cheek warning to Marvel Studios. In an interview with MovieWeb, he said:

“If they don’t ask me to return to the role of Beast, I’ll never go to Disneyland again. I’d love for them to do that. I want to do that.”

It looks like Disneyland can breathe easy again now that Grammer is back in the Marvel fold, and fans can look forward to seeing more of Beast in the coming years as the X-Men’s full debut in the MCU edges ever closer.
